Greatly celebrated and awarded, the “Il viaggio della Parola” project showcased sacred writings selected by the Holy See for its presence in the Milano’s World Expo.
Subtle in its depth and unique in its universal graphic language, this ephemeral installation has since been presented in other significant Italian and worldwide landmarks. The white pavilion looks like a modern cave in which to enter to meditate. Translated in thirteen languages, the Vatican-selected biblical writings are suspended to the pavilion’s facade in white metal lettering. The use of white- on-white makes the words readable only through their shadows and transforms the installation into an ever-evolving work of art throughout the day and sun cycle. By choosing various languages to spread the same message of hope, the work showcases an openness upon the world and coherence in its mission. The jury rewards the Quebecois-Italian team renown for the subtlety and strength of the project and recognizes an architectural ingenuity in the use of white-on-white.
